First I want to wish all of you a very “Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year” and God Bless us all. As most of you may already know Kevin DuMond has been promoted to a management position effective January 1, 2008. Kevin will be missed and we all wish him the best.

I would like to reintroduce myself to everyone. My name is Milton Terrance Gilbert better known as “Terry”. I have been employed at Golden Hill Healthcare Center for 20 years this May. I was currently 1^st Vice President of both CSEA Unit 8950 and CSEA Local 856 and now I am the President of CSEA Unit 8950 and CSEA Local 856. I have been active in the Union for most of my 20 years, first as Shop Steward, then Grievance Representative, then 3^rd Vice President of Unit 8950, then finally President. I’ve walked picket lines, filed grievances, negotiated contracts, co-chair Countywide Labor Management Committee. Over the years I’ve attended many workshops and trainings. I believe knowledge is power, it is the key to success. Learn to listen and listen to learn. If you don’t know me ask the people at Golden Hill Healthcare Center they know me better than most people.

In closing, I want you all to know I am a common man. Most of the people I know are living paycheck to paycheck. We struggle together Brothers and Sisters. I understand our needs, and with that being said I promise you all that I will always be truthful with you even when you don’t like it. I will fight with all that I am to protect your rights and I will do the best I can for all of us. We need to stand together and be counted. “United We Bargain Divided We Beg”. I will keep you informed and updated on all events regarding the membership. Memos to follow about contract negotiations. Thank you all for your support.
