A message from President Terry Gilbert:

It has come to my attention that our employees, specifically our new employees, have been put into a position of being questioned or asked to put a concern, complaint, or be witness to a situation in writing.  By doing this, without knowing the consequences of your actions, you can put another employee’s job in jeopardy.  Brothers and Sisters, we must think before we act and remain united.

If you are not sure, give me a call.  I can be reached at the CSEA Union office @ (845) 331-8080. Without completely understanding, you could subject yourself or other workers on your team, to disciplinary action.
So in closing, remember always that you are not alone.  Be sure you understand your rights.  Speak to your Shop Steward or Building Representative.  Remember “Stop-Think” if not sure, Call.

Remember    -   -        “United We Stand”

Frequently asked questions:

How do I know if I am a Union member?
Answer:
On your pay stub you will see "CSEA Due" if you are a member of CSEA. Otherwise, you will see "Shop Fee". The amount taken out of your check is the same either way, but shop fee payers are not members.

How do I join the Union?
Answer:
If you work for Ulster County just ask your Shop Steward for an application. (See Shop Steward Listing on this Web Site) or call the CSEA office at 845-331-8080 and ask to have an application sent to you, or pick one up at the office at 256 Clinton Ave., Kingston. You may have joined during New Hire Orientation - check your pay stub.

Why should I join the Union?
Some Answers:
You can vote for Officers. 2009 is an election year for Unit and Local Officers. You can vote on the contract. Do you think your wages would be the same without CSEA? In the 2008 contract we were able to negotiate wage increases as well as language adjustments. It is a show of solidarity with co-workers and other Union members. It gives you a voice in your workplace. You can take advantage of Member-only benefits and discounts.
